Take me to a place that speaks for itself!!!
Welcome to the most beautiful trek in the world – the Kashmir Great Lakes which literally validates the most cult-famous Kashmir’s mythical status as the heaven on earth. It literally takes you to the most divine place on earth and undoubtedly the most beautiful side of Kashmir that you have never seen before.
If you are someone who is craving for a Himalayan trek that has snow-capped mountains all around the trail, lush green valleys completely laden with a palette full of colours, and emerald green mountain lakes, then this trek should definitely be on your Wishlist. In fact, this is the only trek in the entire Himalayan region that will take you through three high-altitude passes, five river valleys that will cross seven astonishing alpine lakes with the most magnificent shades of turquoise, blue, and green. In fact, no picture is a justice to the amount of beauty you shall in this trek with your own eyes. This place is indeed every beholder’s dream.
Kashmir Great Lakes not only has beautiful landscape but also the etymology of Kashmir has mythological connection with the Rishi Kashyapa who is known to be one of the Saptarishis and a Manasaputra of Lord Brahma. According to the renowned author, Christopher Snedden, the name Kashmir is originated from the term ‘Kashyapa Mira’ which means Rishi Kashyapa’s lake. It is also believed that the name originates from ‘Kashyapa Meru’ which means all the sacred mountains of Kashyapa. It is also believed that Rishi Kashyapa is the first person to dry out the entire valley where a huge lake named Satisara used to exist. This gap was formed in the place called Varahmulla and if anyone sees the Google Earth images of Kashmir, it matches exactly the description as per mythology.
There are also stories about the Gadsar Lake which is also known as Yemsar that means the lake of demons. It is believed that in this lake there is a freshwater octopus that drags anyone who visits near the shore of the lake inside the water with its tentacles. This is the reason that to date the shepherds do not take their flocks near the lake. Even the visitors are also not allowed to go near this lake though no reality check has been done till now.
Each and every day of Kashmir Great Lakes trek is an opulence of beauty with grand and terribly astonishing landscapes. The weather is extremely clear with endless blue skies, panoramic view of rugged mountains, lush green flamboyant meadows completely covered with wildflowers, crossing river streams, and hopping boulders through the terrain. And most importantly, there is hardly any trek in the Himalayas that has such a collection of turquoise alpine lakes as this one. This trek has a plate full of choices that a trekker wishes to explore.
So for 6 days, you will witness the most beautiful trek of your life with long trekking hours. The total trail covered is 72 km and this moderate-level trek is best for someone who has at least one trek experience because at certain points the trail becomes quite challenging along with long trekking hours. But trust me, when I say that these challenges are absolutely worth taking. Because each and every corner you cross in this trail is absolutely postcard-perfect. The alpine lakes that come across the trail and the snow patches that are beside the lakes are truly like never seen before. And the most magnificent snap of the trail are the bright green meadows of Kashmir and the horses strolling. These are truly the USP of the Kashmir Great Lakes trek.
On Day 1 our team will pick you up at 9 am from Srinagar. And on Day 8, our team will drop you at Srinagar from 6 to 7 pm. So we advise you to make your further plans from there onwards.

Guest Speak
Kashmir is already a breathtakingly beautiful place, and there’s nothing new to say about its charm. However, experiencing the Kashmir Great Lakes trek added a whole new dimension to its beauty. The surroundings, adorned with vibrant wildflowers, rolling meadows, and crystal-clear alpine lakes, made every moment of the trek feel surreal. Walking through the vast meadows, crossing gurgling streams, and witnessing the serene glacial lakes reflecting the towering mountains felt like stepping into a dream. The beauty of the twin lakes, Gangbal and Nandkol, left me mesmerized, their pristine waters mirroring the sky in a way that words cannot do justice. Each campsite along the trail was nestled in nature’s embrace, making them incredibly special and close to my heart. My first trekking experience with Altitude Adventure Holidays was exceptional, and that’s why I chose to return for the KGL trek with them for the second time. The camaraderie, the well-planned itinerary, and the incredible support from the team made the journey even more memorable. From traversing high-altitude passes to sitting beside tranquil lakes at dusk, every moment felt magical. So, if I ever go on another trek, Altitude will always be my first choice, as they have truly set the bar high for unforgettable trekking experiences.- Arpita Sarkar
